Media Studies Department, Assistant Professor
Born and raised in Klagenfurt, Austria, Bernhard Rieder has studied communication, history and philosophy at
Vienna University, obtaining a master's degree in communication in 2002.
During his studies, he worked as a web developper for APA (Austrian Press Agency),
APA OTS, and screenagers, while also doing
independent work. In 1998 he co-founded the media theory platform media.nexus
and has worked with [d]vision as co-organizer of the digital culture events
electronic kindergarten (2001) and
digitalBiedermeier (2002).
In 2002, he emigrated to France, obtaining a master's degree in information and communication science in 2002 and a Ph.D. in the same field in 2006, both from Paris 8 University.
After four years as assistant professor at the Département Hypermédia at Paris 8 University, he joined the University of Amsterdam as an assistant professor for media studies in 2011.
